Raise Your Hands (RYH) are one of Prism’s amazing Collective Funds. Founded with the aim of bringing small, undervalued and unrecognised heroes of the charity sector into the public domain, RYH provide their members with a way of making a difference in an affordable way.
Aimed at (but not solely for!) the next generation, members pay a monthly donation to RYH which is built up over the course of a year. In return, members can propose charities for support, and vote for their favourite causes. Charities then receive a proportionate amount of money according to their percentage of vote.
Prism were delighted to attend RYH’s end of year Wrap Party. Hosted at the Hoxton Hotel, Holborn, the evening featured RYH’s 6 chosen charities of 2016. The event premiered the charity’s election results, where all 6 charities received an impressive sum of money.
The charity that won the highest proportion of votes was the incredible, Siblings Together. Siblings Together is a charity which champions the interests of brothers and sisters separated in the care system. The charity’s role is to provide the guidance, structure, consistency and opportunities that children and young people should receive within a family but often lose when in care. They also partner with other organisations to influence the policy and practice of those working with looked-after children to encourage a focus on sibling contact. They are committed to working to address the needs of the four out of every five children in care living apart from at least one brother or sister.
