Sunday the 25th of November was International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Following this day, we would like to share an insight into the work of The Lotus Flower; a collective fund at Prism the Gift Fund that specifically focuses on promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable women.
Founded by Taban Shoresh in early 2016, following her own personal experience of the Kurdistan humanitarian crises, The Lotus Flower was established to empower women and girls. Its main aim is to enable women so that they can live a safe, free and independent life without the threat of violence.
Recently, Relationship Manager Grace Coffey attended A night with The Lotus Flower. This event focussed on sharing the project’s stories, successes and new partnerships. With performances from internationally recognised poet Hussain Manawer, to art installations by Alice Aedy, The Lotus Flower’s value of ‘working from the heart with love and respect’ was portrayed in a variety of artistic and captivating forms.
The most recent project to be launched by The Lotus Flower is titled Boxing Sisters and is fronted by former pro British boxer Cathy Brown. The new project focusses on the well-being of women and protecting them from gender-based violence. The project aims to do this by offering boxing lessons and certified training qualifications to help women feel empowered.
In addition to this new project, The Lotus Flower continues to support women in a range of different ways. Through their educational courses, awareness sessions, professional trainings and socializing activities, The Lotus Flower is empowering vulnerable women in numerous different ways and enabling them to thrive rather than just survive.
